Frequently Asked Questions at RöstHaus CoffeeRoasted Coffee Questions
How do I pick a coffee? Baffled about which coffee to pick? Learn about all of our coffees Here. Or feel free to give us a call or email us 214-329-9869 or [email protected]. Our Coffee Family would love to help you find a coffee that suits your taste buds. What are tasting notes or cupping notes? Does this mean your coffee is flavored? Our coffees do not contain added flavors. However, each of our single-origin coffees and blends has its own unique flavor. Those flavors and aromas come naturally from the coffee beans and are determined by factors like country of origin, altitude, growing practices, processing techniques, and roasting styles. Many coffees roasted to light-medium present more of the characteristics unique to each origin, while those roasted on a darker level have more of the classic chocolatey and smoky tones found in our Espresso Blends and Darker roasts. The tasting notes that you’ll find on your bag of RÖSTHAUS coffee are what we taste when we brew and drink the coffee. By creating a simile between what we’re tasting in the coffee and familiar flavors we’ve had before (such as chocolate, berries, spice, toasted marshmallow, etc.), it’s easier to communicate the often complex tastes that coffee can take on. How much coffee should I buy We recommend only buying the amount of coffee you can drink in a 2 to 3 week period. You can figure out how much through these scenarios. What grind should I choose? The choice of grind will depend on how you brew your coffee. Usually, we recommend ordering your coffee whole bean and grinding it fresh before you brew. But if you don’t have a good-quality grinder, let us pre-grind it for you! We recommend the following grinds for specific brewing methods: Coarse: a grind typically used for a percolator, French press, and cupping. Medium: for most automatic drip coffee machines specially with metal filters Fine: for pourovers and some paper filter based coffee makers Espresso: a fine grind for espresso machines Does grind size really matter? Yes! Its definitely one of those variables that can make or break a cup of coffee, no matter how good the beans are! What is the best way to store coffee? The best way to store coffee in an airtight container in a dark cupboard. There’s no need to freeze! Just keep your beans away from sunlight, air, and humidity. How long is the shelf life? We recommend drinking your bagged coffee within 2-4 weeks of the roasting date. The coffee will not spoil after this date, but it will lose the amazing aromas and flavors we strive for in roasting. How do I brew coffee? There are infinite ways to brew coffee, and all coffee folks have their own strong opinions as to what makes the best cup. Green Coffee Questions
How long does Green Coffee last? Green Coffee can last 1 to 2 years, if stored properly. The food grade plastic bags we ship in, is not optimal for long term storage in our opinion. You'll hear varying opinions on this, but Vacuum sealed plastics should only be used as storage for 2 months max. Green Coffee needs to Breathe! Our recommendations would be to either use GrainPro SuperGrainbags or a 100% cotton pillow cases will do the trick. Be sure to store in a dark (green coffee is susceptible to light) well ventilated area at room temperature. Avoid extreme temperature and humidity variations. How fresh are our coffees? Our Green coffee stocks arrive every 3 to 6 months depending on origin. We strive to only have the freshest green coffee around. |
